People can't change the truth, but sometimes, the truth can change people. Will all their wrong choices take them to the right places? |

Karissa
Saturday
A week. I’ve only been in school for a week & it’s already going by hella slow. I only have four main classes I have to take, so my school day is pretty short compared to the other underclassmen. Can you believe I already have homework the first damn week? I swear my history teacher is an asshole. I sighed, shut my textbook & laid back on my bed.
It’s been about three days since I last saw Trevor. Seems like we’ve both been playing it low because I haven’t seen Trent since the night he came for dinner. He’s called a couple times but I wasn’t interested, I was more so trying to figure out to confront him.
My phone blared in my back pocket shaking me out of my thoughts. I got it out my pocket & rolled over to my back. I didn’t recognize the number, but it wasn’t blocked so I answered.
“Hello?”
“Karissa?”
“This is her.” I said sitting up, readjusting myself.
“It’s Trevor.”
“Oh,” I responded feeling dumb. “Hey! I wasn’t expecting your call.”
“Yeah,” he replied quietly, making it awkward. “Me & Lamar kind of came to an agreement.”
I readjusted myself again, anticipating his next sentence.
“Can you come get us?”
—————
I pulled up to the gas station a few blocks down from my house & saw the two of them waiting for me. Luckily Alex was napping, so I snagged her car. She’d flip shit if she found out I had it, or knew who I was picking up.
Lamar looked up & noticed me in the parking lot & tapped Trevor. He looked up as well & our eyes met. I broke the stare quickly & they made their way to the car.
“Hey Karissa,” Lamar stated as he got in the car.
“Hey Lamar.” I mumbled.
Trevor got in the front seat & buckled himself in. He looked at me giving a slight head nod & sat back. I glared at him & backed out the gas station.
“So, what made you change your mind?” I asked Trevor.
“I was never set on a plan.” His voice was so dead. Maybe it was an off day.
Lamar sucked his teeth. “Rude ass nigga.”
“Stay in the backseat, wasn’t nobody talkin’ to you.”
The ride to my house was uncomfortable & quiet. Trevor didn’t seem like the talking type, he was to himself. I wanted to know more about him, where he came from & why he’s at where he is now. But that’s for another day.
We pulled up to my driveway a few minutes later & their reactions spilled.
“Aw hell yeah.” Lamar smiled as he rubbed his hands together. On the other hand, Trevor shook his head. “Can’t escape.” he mumbled.
We all got out the car & they followed behind me. As we walked in, I could hear more of Lamar’s excitement about the house. At least one of them is grateful. I can definitely tell Trevor already has the wrong idea about me just because of how big my house is. If only he knew I hated it.
I lead them down to the basement where we had three unused guest rooms, another living room & a full bathroom.
“Go ahead & pick a room.” I smiled. Of course, Lamar leaped into the nearest room & cheered. Trevor on the other hand dragged himself into the one across the hall from Lamar’s. I’m beginning to think this wasn’t his idea.
“You guys listen,” I called from the hall. They both came to their doorways. “My parents work six days a week from 6am to 4pm. So you’re free to do as you please in those hours. But once they come home, be lowkey. Now I can’t remember the last time they’ve even laid eyes on this basement, but you never know.” I told them. “Simple enough, right?” they both nodded.
“Well, I don’t know bout y’all, but Imma go shower.” Lamar laughed as he walked to the bathroom. I showed him where everything was & left him to himself.
Trevor walked back into his room without closing the door so I followed in behind him.
“You okay?” I asked.
He nodded & laid back on the bed with his hands tucked behind his head. His beard was so scruffy & his cheekbones where on the verge of caving in.
My phone rang & the ringtone was to my jobs number. I’ve been working at a daycare about ten minutes from my house random days of the week for the past year or so.
“Hello?”
“Karissa, Tristen is acting out again. How do you usually calm her?”
“Give her, her white blanket with the purple trim & rock her. I usually sing Guardian Angel to her too. By Ryan Leslie? That calms her the most.”
“Thank you, thank you!” my coworker said before hanging up.
Tristen was like my shadow, she loved me like I was her older sister. I was the only one who could keep her sane. Autism is such a tricky thing to deal with to some people but the kids with it are just as amazing as the ones without it.
“Who was that?” Trevor asked sitting up.
“My job.”
“You work at Sprout?”
I looked at him with my eyebrows scrunched together, “Yeah.”
He laid back on the bed in the same spot, like he was a robot. How did he know where I worked?
“You hungry?”
“Not really.”
“Well… If you get hungry, help yourself.” I answered getting ready to leave the room. “Do you need anything?”
“No.” His answer was quick & he seemed annoyed.
I scoffed & turned to walk away. The bed creaked & I felt a cold, yet soft hand wrap around my wrist & pull me back. He turned me so I was face to face with his chest. I then noticed he was wearing the same blue long sleeve & grey jeans.
“What’s this from..” he said low, wiping my bangs from my forehead. He lightly ran his finger over my old, healed scar on the border of my hairline. I looked up & noticed he was staring into my eyes the whole time. His eyes were so dark & showed no emotion, almost scaring me. Before tears could fill mine I quickly stormed out the room.

Trevor
Shame. Dads acts were rubbing off on him. That’s how he keeps her around I guess. I wish I could help her escape but hell, I got my own problems. Mama got away, so I know she can too. Then again, she’s weak.
Why does she even care about me so much? She just met me not even a week ago & she already got me posted in her basement. Hell, no one’s ever gave a fuck about me, what makes her any different.
“What’s wrong wit you dog?” Lamar said from the hall snapping me out of my thoughts.
“I’ono,” I shrugged. “I mean, why she being so nice to us?”
“Cause she like you.” Lamar smirked.
“Nigga yeah right, you buggin’. Besides, she wit my brother.”
“Okay, and?” he chuckled.
“And, he’s the complete opposite of me. Who in their right mind would dump the most successful high schooler on the whole east coast for a homeless 17 year old?”
“One crazy mother fucker.”
“Exactly.”
“She seem pretty crazy to me.” he laughed. “Letting two bums crash at your house that you’ve known for a few days? Yeah she crazy.”
“She just feels bad.” I waved him off.
“Yeah, cause she likes you.” Lamar replied, restating his point. “How do you even know she’s happy with that nigga?”
“Cause.”
“Cause what? He can shoot hoops?”
“He has more to offer.”
“Yeah, in his pocket. Trev, I know you. At first, yes you can be a hard shell to crack, but you a good dude. Stop with these assumptions & speak the fuck up.” he ended before walking to his room.

“Baby, I just wanna be happy.”
“And we’ll be happy, just be patient.”
“How long do I have to wait?” she said rubbing her hand along my thigh.
“Soon enough babe.” I answered kissing her passionately.
I could feel the smile appear on her lips as I kissed her passionately.
“I just don’t like sharing you with two other bitches.” she pouted.
“I know baby.”
“When’s it gonna be just us?”
I sighed, “Evelyn, we’ve been through this. As soon as I graduate & get into college. Now again, be patient. So until then, my other baby needs to be tended to.”
She rolled her eyes & opened her passenger side door. “Bye Trent.”
I reached over & smacked her ass as she hopped out. She turned around & glared at me as I lodged my bottom lip between my teeth. Tryna act like she didn’t want more. I had someone else to tend to though.
———
The door opened & I guess I was an unexpected visitor. “Hey baby.” I said kissing her softly before walking into the house.
“Haven’t seen you in a while.” she said closing the door & locking it.
“I know & I’m sorry. I’ve just been busy.” I walked over to her & held her close by her waist. “I missed you.”
“Mmmhm.” she answered trying to push me back.
“Aye,” I said pulling her back. “I’m serious.” I said low before my lips found their way to her neck & kissed it slowly.
Her tense body relaxed in my hands & she let out a long held breath. “Anybody home?” I mumbled on her neck.
She shook her head & wrapped her arms around my neck. I had to make her forget about Trevor, whether it was for the moment or forever. That bum ass nigga wasn’t getting in the way of what I had. Besides this always solved our problems.
My hands slid down past her waist & gripped her thick ass in my palms. One of her best assets. A small moan escaped her lips & she locked me into a kiss. Her soft lips sent me into a trance making me get hard quicker. My tongue explored all around her mouth, getting sloppy.
“Take them clothes off.” I mumbled in between our kisses.
She did as I told her & let her sexy skin show. All the bullshit doesn’t matter once I get reminded why I’m staying with her.
“Make me happy, baby.” Without being told twice, she got down on her knees & undid my jeans letting them fall to the floor. She stroked me over my boxers before pulled my dick through & held it at the base. Her tongue tickled the tip before she sucked slowly on the head. The warmness of her mouth felt good as she took more & more in little at a time.
Her tongue wrapped around my dick adding more pleasure, getting it wet. While one hand assisted her while she sucked on me, the other played with my balls through my boxers. I let out a small grunt, leaning my hands against the wall. I felt my dick hitting the back of her throat as she swallowed me whole. Her head bobbed slowly up & down taking small breaths in between.
My right hand gripped a handful of her curly hair and went with her rhythm. She went back & forth from rubbing on her nipples to playing with her clit as she got faster, making my pre-cum travel down her chin. My body started tensing up & I knew what was gonna come next. I gripped her head with both my hands & fucked her mouth hard. Her hands grabbed onto my thighs trying to stay steady.
“Ah, fuck!” I felt my dick start to twitch inside her mouth, only making her suck harder. My grunts filled her house as I came inside her mouth. She swallowed every bit of it & kept going til I went limp inside of her mouth.
She wiped her chin with her finger & licked up all the cum off her. I met her with a kiss & picked her up, slamming her against the wall. I sucked on her left nipple holding her by her ass. She let out small moans while she dug her fingers inside herself & played with her clit at the same time.
“Just fuck me Trent.” she whispered in my ear. I smirked & did as I was told, entering her slowly. The loud moan that escaped her mouth echoed throughout her house.
I had her back.

Trevor
I laid in my bed tuning everything out, just thinking. Lamar is the reason too, damn him. There’s a reason I don’t want to catch feelings with this girl. Every person I ever thought loved me or cared turned their back on me. I don’t know what love is anymore. Lamar tryna open my eyes I guess. I’ll never know if I don’t try.
Not wanting to, I got out the bed & sluggishly made my way up the steps. This nigga better be right.
I slowly opened the door to the living room. I heard small screams that could be mistaken for cries or pleasure, I wasn’t too sure. As I crept around the corner to the stairs, the noise got louder & constant. A few more steps & I was met with the noise.
It was her. Pinned to the wall getting fucked by my brother right in front of my eyes. Her hair was messy & they were both covered in sweat down to their feet. For a split second, she met my gaze.
She stopped Trent & filled her face with worry & regret. Before Trent could see me, I disappeared to the basement.
“So?” Lamar asked as soon as my foot hit the bottom step.
“Went great.” I brushed past him & went into my room, shutting the door & making sure I locked it.
I heard loud footsteps running down the basement steps as Karissa called out my name. It was only moments before she came knocking on my door.
“Trevor.” she called again, trying to open the door & failing. “Please, let me in.” this was her house..
Even though I didn’t want to & I shouldn’t have, I got up & unlocked the door. She opened the door relieved as I walked back over to my bed & laid with hands behind my head.
“Trevor, I’m so, so sorry.”
No. You’re just what I said you were, weak.
“Why? That’s your man.”
She sighed & put her hand on her forehead. She was half dressed with her jeans still unzipped & her white t-shirt on with no bra under it, letting her hard nipples show. It was hard resisting to fuck her myself. She probably would too.
“I don’t even know why I let it all happen.”
“That’s your boyfriend. It’s called making love.”
She got quiet & locked her fingers together over her stomach. “..I don’t love him.”
I gave her a quick side-eye & rolled over in my bed so my back was facing her. Why was I even so pressed about this?
“It’s almost 4. So I’d stay down here.” she said as she exited.
I don’t even know what feelings I had about anything at this point. The sight of my brother always sickens me, that’s nothing new. Maybe it was just the fact that, he didn’t deserve her & she’s stupid enough to stay with him.
But then again, she’s weak.
kayla-themusicjunkie asked: Man Falen and her bougie attitude can have a damn seat! And I'm fearing the worst for who Alex's baby father is. I hope that Trevor takes up Karissa's offer.
Falen is just….. Falen. keep an eye on her.
Alex’s whole life is a damn mess.
& if Trevor was smart he would.
The next morning

Alex
“You know you don’t have to live like this, right?” Barry reassured me for the millionth time.
If you couldn’t tell before, him & my father aren’t in favor of each other.
“I know baby.”
“I mean, you’re 21 years old for crying out loud.”
“Don’t remind me.” I mumbled.
“Why don’t you just stay with me?” And, here we go again.
“Barry,” I sighed. We’ve been over this. “I can’t.”
“Why?!” he said jumping up from my bed.
“You can Alex, you just keep telling yourself you can’t.”
I sat up with a sigh and held my knees close my chest. “What are you so scared of Alex?”
“It’s not you.” I said under my breath.
“Then who is it Alex! Just let me know & I’ll do whatever I can.”
I looked down at my small baby bump & admired it’s growth over the past month. He doesn’t know about it yet & may never.
“Just tell me, who is it..” he begged.
It’s him.

Karissa
“So he just.. lied?”
“Yup.”
“Straight to your face?”
“Mmhm.”
Falen looked at me with wide eyes. “You better slice that nigga! Oh nahhhh.”
“Don’t worry, he’ll get what he deserves.” I answered confidently.
Falen sighed & calmed down. “Okay, maybe you don’t have to kill him.” she continued, sounding sane for once. “Just confront him about it. Make him admit to his lies & snatch the truth out. Maybe he’ll learn.”
“Maybe. But I doubt it.” I thought.
For a second, she sat in deep thought. “Oh!” she said snapping her fingers. “Graduation night! Break up with him then!”
That was her brilliant idea?
“Why wait a year though? Why not sooner? Today even?” If anything, I was trying to get him out my life as quick as possible.
“Because! He’ll think everything’s going good & smooth sailing. Then, bam! You hit him with it. He’ll never see it coming.” she ended pleased with her scheme.
“I don’t know Falen. I’ll see.”
Just then, the bell rang for 7th block.

Trevor
I sat patiently in the handicap stall of the men’s bathroom for Lamar to come back with the stuff. Since I did it last time, it was his turn. I just hope he doesn’t fuck up.
In the time I waited, I thought about my little Angel & how she might be doing. To this day, I regret leaving her but I had to. One of these days, I’m going to get her back & she’ll be free of the madness. She deserves it.
A couple light taps on the stall door struck me out of my thoughts. I looked down below the stall door & saw his raggedy worn white shoes. I unlocked the door & let him in.
“I got all of it.”
One by one, he pulled clothes from out of his winter coat & handed them to me.
For myself, he got a turquoise long sleeve thermal & grey jeans. He got the same thermal but in red with black jeans. After that he pulled out a few pair of clean briefs & socks.
“Sneakers?”
“Yeah, hol’ up.” he said taking out two more pairs of white shoes.
“Soap?”
“I got you. I got toothbrushes & toothpaste too.”
He then pulled out four travel size bath soaps, a couple rags & the toothbrushes & paste. He was becoming good at this.
We quickly ran our rags though the hot sink water & squeezed soap on them getting washed up, then brushed our teeth in the sink too. Then in the stall, back to back, we changed into our new clothes & disposed of our old torn ones.
“No razors?” I said running my fingers across my raggedy facial hair.
“Nah, they were wired up.” I nodded even though those are simple to crack into.
After we rid of everything, we headed back out into the Walmart shopping center.
I met Lamar a few weeks after I hit the streets. I’ve been teaching him things along the way & to be honest he’s taught me a couple things too. His story was a little different than mine though. To be honest, I’m still struggling to fully trust him.
“Aye,” he said tapping my shoulder. “Ain’t that ole girl.” he added pointing to the entrance.
I still didn’t know her name but I definitely knew her face. It was her.
I nodded my head & made my way over to her. “Oh she got a little friend with her too.” Lamar added. I was nowhere near interested in her.
The closer I got, the dumber I felt. She’s with this hot shot athlete who doesn’t look like skin & bones. Not to mention, he has a car & clothes. Simple shit. As soon as I was about to approach her, I turned my back & changed my mind.
“What you doin’ Trev?”
I waved him off, “She ain’t gone want shit to do with me.”
We started walking back towards the grocery section of the store like planned.
“Trevor?” I heard a soft yet confused voice ask from behind me.
I turned around slowly & saw the confusion I heard. “Hey.” I responded trying to smile.
“This is my boy Lamar.” I said introducing him.
He reached out for her hand. “I’m Karissa.” she said, shaking his hand.
So that’s her name.
“How are you?” she asked me.
“Eh, you know. Same thing.” She nodded with that confused look again.
“You wanna walk?” she asked.
No. “Sure.” I accepted.
“I’ll see you in a little bit, okay Falen?” she told her friend.
She looked a little familiar but I couldn’t put my finger on where I’ve seen her. Oh well.
“Yeah.” she replied as she glared at me. The fuck?
“So what are you doing here?” she asked as we walked.
“Getting a few things.” I said picking up a bag of chips off a shelf & ripping the top open. I motioned the bag to her but she quickly refused. Whatever.
“So we didn’t finish our conversation from the other day.”
“Well your friend didn’t seem to happy to see you talking to a “bum”.”
“Yeah. My sister can be a bitch sometimes.”
I nodded in acceptance. I wasn’t gonna disagree with that. “So. Where did we leave off?” I asked eating more of my chips.
“How you knew Trent.” she replied quickly.
Oh. “We’re brothers.” I shrugged.
I saw a strange light in her eyes when I answered her.
“I knew it.” she whispered under her breath.
“Knew what.”
“That he was lying! I asked him about you before & he said he didn’t even know someone named Trevor.”
Damn big bro. It’s like that now? “Not surprised.” I answered putting the empty bag of chips on a random shelf.
She looked at me mysteriously & it scared me to be honest. “What.”
“How old are you?”
Why she got so many questions. “17.” I answered getting a strawberry milk out of the refrigeration section.
Her mouth dropped & she stopped me in the middle of the isle. “But, aren’t you..”
“Homeless? Yeah.” I said going around her.
“It’s the middle of the fall.”
Oh, so that’s more important than me being a minor. “I know.”
“Well—”
“What? Is it another question that you’re gonna use to judge me? Because if it is, save it for the next nigga.”
“No, no.” she pleaded. “I was just gonna ask.. If you needed a place to stay.”
What?
“I mean winter is right around the corner & you shouldn’t be out in the cold.”
“That sounds great, trust me. But I can’t leave Lamar.” there now she’s out of my hair.
She pressed her lips together & thought for a second. Fuck. “Both of you can stay.”
This shit seemed so sketchy.
“Here.” she said taking a pen out her backpack. “Think about it, & let me know.” she wrote down her cell phone number & something else on a piece of paper.
She handed me the paper & smiled. “Just promise me you’ll think about it.”
“I don’t make promises babe.” I answered honestly, taking the paper from her, folding it & putting it in my pocket.
She nodded & looked down.
“Karissa!” I heard an obnoxious voice call. “You ready?”
“Yeah Falen, I’m coming.”
The same girl started glaring at me again. The fuck is her problem?
“I’ll catch you around Trevor.” she smiled warmly. It reminded me of my mom.
“I don’t doubt it.”
desireddarkskin asked: Whatt the fuckery, theres soo much goin on & my mind is tryna put things together but I might be wrong but Lawdy Im lovin this story so far. Even tho aint not BROWNSKIN people in it. Trent is a dickhead and Karissa needs to trade his ass in for a puppy. I feel so bad for Angel poor baby ! thanks for reading Danielle 😌

Karissa
Later that night
We sat at the cherry wooden table that seated six, even though there were five of us, and we waited for our maid, Tabetha, to bring the dinner to the table. It consisted of 12 oz. steaks topped with cooked mushrooms & onions, mashed red potatoes, asparagus & buttery dinner rolls. Soon as it was done being brought to us, we dug in.
”So how’s that scholarship looking, Trenton?” my dad asked before cutting into his steak.
He was always against nicknames. He thought it was disrespectful to call someone a name they weren’t born with, even if their parents are the ones who gave it to them.
”It’s not going as good as I hoped, but I’m definitely working on it.” he answered honestly.
”Well I certainty hope so. I’d hate to see you lose a good thing. Vice versa.” he responded sternly.
Trent nodded his head & clenched his jaw. He always felt the need to impress my dad, even after I always tell him that his opinion doesn’t matter, it’s mine that does. But as always, he says his opinion will always matter, as long as he has me.
”And what if he never gets the scholarship?” I asked interrupting the awkward silence.
”Excuse me?” my dad said focusing on me.
”What if he never gets this scholarship that you’re hoping for more than he is, & gets a regular everyday job that doesn’t make him famous? Will he not be good enough for me then?”
”No, he won’t. But he will get it. I’m very certain.” he said refocussing on his food. “You know Karissa, you’re very lucky to have this young man, I hope you know. I know for a fact that if he keeps on the right track, he’ll be successful & never regret the choices he’s making.”
”How can I forget how lucky I am.” I said sarcastically. I knew that line would come soon. Everybody, including Trent, had their eyes on me. That ungrateful & disappointed look set in their eyes. My dad looked over at Alex who was abnormally quiet the whole dinner.
She swallowed hard & nodded nervously. “He’s right Karissa, you’re very fortunate to have Trenton.” she said not making eye contact with me.
I looked at her sideways, seeing as how this was the first ever time she’s defended Trent. And called him by his full name. “Help him on his way to success instead of dragging him down, because that’s all you’re doing. He loves you & wants you both so succeed together.” she added.
My sister was so full of bullshit that I wasn’t sure if she was being sincere or trying to please my dad. I wasn’t even trying to defend Trent to be honest. If anything I was trying to make my dad prove my point. That unless my boyfriend is extremely wealthy or famous, he’s not good enough. For him that is.
I mumbled a low ‘whatever’ & left the table.
”She’ll be fine, she’s just upset.” I heard my mom tell the table. Upset meaning childish in her eyes.
I heard them call Tabetha back to the table to collect the plates & my dad walked up to his room, followed by my mom.
”Alexandra.” my dad said sternly from the top of the steps. “Come up to your room, we need to have a talk.” She looked nervous as she jogged up the steps.
Something was wrong with her, she was being strange. In less than a minute, it was just me & Trent downstairs alone.
”So we gonna talk?” he asked.
”About?”
”Us. I mean our relationship isn’t going steady & I need it to work.”
”Exactly. You need it to work. I could go without you for all I care.” I said nonchalantly.
He stared at me hard from the corner of his eyes & I could tell he wanted to do something. I knew he wanted to punch me, slap me, choke me, but he wouldn’t. Not with my dad at home.
”Can we just try, Karissa.”
I looked at him sideways, “Sure Trent, we can try.” I answered. “But we have to be honest with each other at all times.”
”No problem, I can do that.” he answers quickly.
”Good. Then I have a question that needs to be answered. Honestly.”
”Okay.” he nodded.
”Who’s Trevor?”
His eyes scrunched & he looked shocked at my question. By his reaction, I already knew what Falen was saying was true. And if he lies now, on his own blood? We’re over with.
”I don’t know anyone named Trevor.” he lied.
”You sure?”
”Most definitely.”
I shook my head & laughed a little. “Thanks.”
People were really proving my point tonight. They all think I’m stupid, but I’m far from it.
”No problem babe.” he said coming over & kissing me on the forehead. “I gotta go, but I’ll catch you later. Love you.” he added before leaving out.
I had a lot of thinking to do.

Alex
”Do I make myself clear, Alexandra?” he asked.
”Yes.” I swallowed.
Apparently I wasn’t doing enough to make sure Karissa stayed with Trent. I could care less about him. If only my dad knew the truth about him.
”And speaking of boys. That little one named, Bobby, Benny, whatever his name is. He’s not welcome here anymore.”
”His name is Barry.” I rolled my eyes.
”I don’t give a damn, he’s not to come in my house.”
”Why not?” I asked upset & in his defense.
”Stand up..” I stood up slowly & crossed my arms over my stomach.
”You think I can’t see that shit?!” he said unlocking my arms & acknowledging the small bump in my stomach. “I bet you don’t even know who the father is.” he said disgusted before walking out of my room.
He slammed the door shut & plopped on my bed, laying on my back.
”I bet I do.”
